hell is people that cant see anything but themselves and yet are blind to what people truly think of them. Morons that cant see, or simply don't care , that they're simply not that interesting and yet refuse to shut up about themselves.Makes me want to drop them down a pit and leave them with no one but themselves for company for a dozen years or so, might teach them to SHUT THE FUCK UP for a while and listen to others for a change.

I think I'm bitching about other people...

...but, the reality of this is I don't know if this is where to put my story or not.

The deal is this: I'm relatively new to Tribe. In one of my tribes, I posted a comment and got responses so I sent friend invitations to every member of the tribe. Dumb. I know. But, I don't worry over much about whether I look or act dumb. Anyway, in inviting every single person in this tribe to be my friend, I think (not sure...thinking is an activity I rarely engage in...but I think I was probably thinking) I invited the two 'alpha' dogs. In other words, in this particular tribe (again, I'm trying to think again....) there were two individuals vying for dominance and as adversaries, they were/are probably enaged in some sort of Tribal war. Initially, one of them accepted my dumb invitation. Then, the next day, the other accepted and now, the first one has undone the acceptance of my invitation.

I admit that sending out a blanket invitation to everyone in this tribe without really knowing who anyone was was not too bright a move. And, I probably stirred up a sh*t storm with it. I have to laugh at what I did...I sent the exact same message with each and every invitation, a macro that I put together to get those invitations out faster. Nothing says sincerity like an impersonal and macro-ed invitation!

You know, I've reread this post and the more I think about this, the less I care what happened. Oh well. Actually, thinking some more (there I go, trying to make up for lost time with the thinking deficit), perhaps the two people, the two 'alphas' from this other Tribe should be the ones posting a complaint about me here.

Looks like the health insurance companies do not have to pay for lawyers fees when they lose a lawsuit for not following through on their contractual obligations. Thank you Roberts Supreme Court and Congress for your supreme wisdom in giving unbridled greed the upper hand when it comes to our health...

... or WHATEVER these people call themselves these days, these smug, selfish, self-satisfied, breast-fed-until-20, dreadlocked, dyed, tie-dyed, shaved, tattooed, pierced, feral suburban brats and trust-fund subcultural revolutionaries in wannabe post-Apocalyptic drag with their ironic gangsta-swagger and their mysteriously custom of ending every statement with a question mark ...

Can they be deadheads when the Grateful Dead were already long gone before this next generation of 21st Century was born?

Anyway …

I just came back from an enormous roots / folk / World music festival in the Blue Ridge Mountains of SW Virginia. Four days, six stages, three dozen different bands, and camping in those beautiful green mountains and valleys. There was bluegrass, swing, Old Time, African, Balkan, Klezmer, American folk, country and Western, alt country, rockabilly, Zydeco, blues, and all kind of fusions of those traditions. Sounds ideal, yeah? It was ... until the actual festival-goers showed up ...

I've been to many, many music festivals in the past. Usually, people look out for one another. Nobody howls obscenities around other peoples kids, or tramples their feet, or walks all over their blankets, or or blows cigarette smoke in their faces, or cuts in line at the concessions and port-a-toilets, or storms the stage the moment the band appears, or has loud, stupid conversations in the middle of the crowd while the band is playing ...

These loud, rude, angry, obnoxious, drunk, high, tripping, chain-smoking, littering, line-cutting, stage-swarming alternateen hipsters pushed their way to the front of everything and swarmed the stage during every single performance, blocking the view of the stage for everybody under six feet.

Was Woodstock like this? Any Age of Aquarius alumni out there who would like to fill us in here?

I know that Gen X frat party bacchanalia that they called Woodstock 1994 was a REAL lovin’ spoonful … Dozens of fights, reported rapes, other sexual assaults, theft, etc.

This reminds me of the skinheads and boneheads and other aggro losers who effectively shut down various hardcore punk scenes all over the country in the mid- to late-1980s with their fighting and attitude and generally obnoxious and hostile behavior.

Jello Biafra summed it up pretty well in “Chickenshit Conformist” (Dead Kennedys, “Bedtime For Democracy,” 1986):

"Punk's not dead
It just deserves to die
When it becomes another stale cartoon
A close-minded, self-centered social club
Ideas don't matter, it's who you know
If the music's gotten boring
It's because of the people
Who want everyone to sound the same
Who drive bright people out
Of our so-called scene
'Til all that's left
Is just a meaningless fad […]
What's ripped us apart even more than drugs
Are the thieves and the goddamn liars
Flipping people off when they share their stuff
When someone falls are there any friends?
Harder core than thou for a year or two
Then it's time to get a real job
Others stay home, it's no fun to go out
When the gigs are wrecked by gangs and thugs."

Here we go again ...

Some person that I am vaguely acquainted to sent me a group-email that began "I don't normally forward politcal emails on but I felt very strongly about this one. If I've offended anyone, I'm very sorry but it doesn't change the picture. That speaks for itself."

Wow, this must be pretty serious, I thought. Something about the war in Iraq or the plummeting economy or gay marriage or the possible beginning of a New Cold War ...

Wrong.

It was smug, self-satisfied, simplistic, Arab-bashing, mud-slinging sucker-punch bullsh*t smear-campaign about how one of the presidential candidates DOESN'T PUT HIS HAND ON HIS HEART WHEN HE SAYS THE FRIGGIN PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, the kind of hit-and-run bumper-sticker "poltical analysis" for knee-jerk mouth-breathers who think that the Bible says it's OK to marry your siblings. The forwarded piece drew careful and specific attention to the fact that the candidate in question shares a name with a recently executed Iraqi dictator. Horrors! They must be the same man!

What is it about that lethal combination of partisan politics and the Internet that turns people's brains to mush ..?

Hell is too much patchouli!

Being a quasi-reformed hippie myself I have a certain soft spot for the scent of essential oils...in moderation. Personally I prefer sandalwood, perhaps a scant bit of amber or myrrh but patchouli smells like a forced rodent habitat that hasn't been cleaned out in many months. (Please don't ask how I know this. Let's just say I have kids and from time to time I've been weak enough to allow them to house such creatures with the many empty promises to clean and care for them and even upon the threat that I will feed such creatures to the nearest predator I can find IF they don't follow through on said promises, well...my olfactory sense always wins out over their basic sense of responsibility or fear of punishment).

Today I was grocery shopping and as I was perusing the various aisles looking for whatever random items I sought: gluten free tortillas made of Teff, an assortment of seasonal squash, something guaranteed to *KILL* Hobo spiders (fuckers have taken over the northeast corner of my downstairs bathroom and have threatened on more than one occasion to send out convoys in search of multiple residences- spider suburbia?) and a package of clothespins ( which are 5 times MORE expensive at the porn store...go figure!), my nose picked up the none too savory scent of WAY TOO MUCH PATCHOULI !!!! I didn't actually SEE the perpetrator of this crime as he'd turned a corner, but my imagination conjured up the visual of an enormous, monstrous rat filling his cart with Dry Asian goods or perhaps Mexican (that's where the odor was strongest).

When I turned my head to match a face, body or at least a species to this cloying scent I saw nothing but a brief flash of multi-colored brightness. Then *it* was gone. I thought nothing more of it...until I got to the checkout lane.

There were only two checkout lanes available and being that I only had 3 items I went to the express lane. And that's where I was accosted by *it*. IT wore a bright tie dyed t-shirt and WAY TOO MUCH PATCHOULI! That first layer was only moderately offensive. I could almost forgive him and told myself that perhaps he suffers from that desensitized olfactory phenomenon that is often the result of a few too many Dead shows. Or perhaps he loved someone once upon a time that told him that patchouli was sexy (she/he is obviously long gone by now and I reckoned that his daily application of said sexy scent was in direct proportion to how long she/he has been out of the picture...at least 3 years according to my now rapidly firing gag reflexes). I decided, more out of reflex, to find another checkout lane before I added the scent of my own mid-morning vomit to the already putrid stench of his Eau du Rotted-Unrequited Love. But FUCK ME, I was too slow and now the only other checkout lane is inhabited by a tiny and very slow gray person. Gray hair, gray skin, grayish clothes and an entire cart full of amazingly neutral colored items of consumption. (Which I thought was bizarre for a moment given that most store bought items are as colorful as my stinky hippie's tie dyed t-shirt, but I didn't get a chance to fully ponder this til later).

In any case, I was stuck there. I was captured within the 5 or so feet of radius his overuse of patchouli emanated from. And just when I thought I could handle IT, out of some twisted blend of sympathy and empathy, it FLIRTED with me!!!! I lasted all of about a minute prior to that debacle, and then I really just couldn't take it any more. Anxious and nightmarish visions of being caught in a putrid, fetid and now horny rat cage kept knocking at my skull. So, I did what any self preserving being would do...I went shopping for more random crap. Found a really cool and perfectly symmetrical wonton press by the way. You know, for all those wontons I'll never make? And then I got back in the checkout lane once Mr. Randy Rancid Rat Cage smelling Tie Dye Dude was gone and walked out of there feeling quite successful. Resourceful, even. I came just that close to the HELL that is other people and survived it only slightly less broke than I was prior to the experience.

Oh, and I discovered that the wonton press makes really cool crustless pb & j sandwiches and with just enough pressure it can mimic a perfect bite mark (with none of those pesky identifiable dental marks...ahem).

Questionable moral to this story? Lay OFF the fucking patchouli, man! You're not foolin anyone into thinking you actually smell clean, and that tie dye t-shirt, though perpetually BRIGHT, doesn't really hide dirt or stench nor does it advertise how liberal and cool you are. Or, I dunno...maybe it DOES, but I prefer my liberal hippies in shades of "I give a fuck about myself and those that are forced to smell me".

Yes, tell us everything, how bored you are at work, what you had for lunch today, how your co-worker in the adjacent cubicle makes a smacking sound when he eats, all about what's in the glove compartment of your car, how you have to go grocery shopping this weekend (but you really don't want to) ... Tell us ALL about that weird dream that you had last night even though you can only remember a little bit of it, yes, tell us EVERYTHING ... here, the zenith of telecommunication technology, satellites and transcontinental fiber optic networks and the whole deal, and what for? So we can hack and slash through the tedious minutiae that make up the lives of borderline autistic, self-absorbed and self-satisfied narcissists with too much time on their hands.

sometimes there really is no better word to describe some people, other than "asshole". i work with a such set of dueling banjos, and really i am not sure which one of them is worse. i actually find myself fantasizing about either or both of them getting into horrible car accidents just so the world would be rid of their fucked-upness. These two are quite bitter and miserable and lash out in the most pre-pubescent manor in their lame attempts to break their attention even if only for a moment, from the the hell that is their lives. truly, they seem obsessed with manipulating the rest of us to be as miserable as they are. indeed, they have achieved the highest level of fucktivity in my book, because they have taken what is already a high pressure job and turned it into a back stabbing, status attacking, character assassinating, humiliation contest, peppered with thinly veiled threats and insults. the funny thing is that, of course at first they did not like eachother , but as long as they were bickering amongst themselves the rest of us enjoyed relative peace, but now it seems, they realized they wouldnt be getting any attention by only backstabbing eachother, no no!! they now have decided to join forces and thereby create a force of assholeness powered by twice the bullshit!!! The list of cretinous behaviour is endless and laughable for those who do not have to endure it, but truly, i say unto thee--these fuckers need to be stopped!!!! .......***ahem***,thank you for letting me vent.......

Crosswalks

Ok, this is actually an example of hell is *not* other people...unless it's the designers of this asinine crosswalk.

Anyway, there is a crosswalk across a busy 4-lane, 45 MPH highway on my way to work. There is no signal so pedestrians are at the mercy of 4 lanes of traffic to stop for them. This morning there was a guy waiting to cross and we all miraculouosly stopped for him. He (cautiously) ran across the crosswalk, waving his thanks to all of the motorists who were stopped.

I thought, "Now *that* guy knows how to get his ass across a crosswalk!"

He surely beats the heifer on her cell phone who sauntered across in front of me at a stop light the other day. She didn't have a walk signal and my light changed to green when she was about 1/4 way across. I waited until she got right in front of my car and then laid on my horn. he he he It was grand fun watching her jump out of her skin. :-)

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/01/hospital.death.ap/index.html?eref=rss_topstories

NEW YORK (AP) -- City hospital officials said they were shocked by surveillance footage showing a woman falling from her chair, writhing on the floor and dying as workers failed to help for more than an hour.

Surveillance video shows a woman lying on the hospital floor for almost an hour before anyone helped her.

Esmin Green, 49, had been waiting in the emergency room for nearly 24 hours when she toppled from her seat at 5:32 a.m. June 19, falling face-down on the floor.
She was dead by 6:35, when someone on the medical staff, flagged down by a person in the waiting room, finally approached, nudged Green with her foot and gently prodded her shoulder, as if to wake her.
The staffer left and returned with someone wearing a white lab coat who examined her and summoned help.
Until the staffer's appearance, Green's collapse barely caused a ripple. Other patients waiting a few feet away didn't react. Security guards and a member of the hospital's staff appeared to notice her prone body at least three times but made no visible attempt to see whether she needed help. Watch the surveillance video »
One guard didn't even leave his chair, rolling it around a corner to stare at the body and then rolling away a few moments later.
Green, who had been involuntarily committed the previous morning and had waited overnight for a bed, stopped moving about half an hour after she collapsed.
The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, which runs the hospital, said six people have been fired as a result of the incident, including security personnel and members of the medical staff.
Don't Miss
•	WABC: Woman dies in hospital waiting room
Green's medical records raised the possibility that someone might have tried to cover up the circumstances of the death.
They contained notations indicating that she was up and about during the time in which the video shows her dying on the floor.
"We are all shocked and distressed by this situation," HHC's president, Alan Aviles, said in a statement. "We express our deep regrets to the patient's family and will ensure a thorough investigation to answer any questions that remain."
Details of the death were disclosed by the hospital June 20, but the case largely remained unnoticed until the video became public.
The psychiatric unit at Kings County Hospital had been a subject of complaints by advocates for the mentally ill.
A state agency, the New York State Mental Hygiene Legal Service, filed a lawsuit a year ago, calling the psychiatric center "a chamber of filth, decay, indifference and danger."
Patients, the suit said, "are subjected to overcrowded and squalid conditions often accompanied by physical abuse and unnecessary and punitive injections of mind-altering drugs."
"From the moment a person steps through the doors," it added, "she is stripped of her freedom and dignity and literally forced to fight for the essentials of life."
The suit was especially critical of the hospital's emergency ward, saying it is so poorly staffed that patients are often marooned there for days while they wait to be evaluated.

Sometimes, the unit runs out of chairs, according to the lawsuit, forcing people to wait on foam mats or on the waiting room floor. The suit also claims that bathrooms are filthy and filled with flies, and that patients who complain too loudly are sometimes handcuffed, beaten or injected with psychotropic drugs.
The office of the city's medical examiner said it was still trying to determine why Green died. She had been brought to the hospital suffering from agitation and psychosis, city officials said.

Does anyone else hate being crammed into an elevator?
Polite hi, then you can't escape.
You glance up at the floors like you need to monitor the progress,
Or stare at the doors begging them to release you.
You can't stare at the people, though they are obviously the most interesting things in there.
And I mean, you might get to your floor, but then again - you might not.
You could be stuck pressed up against the wall of this torture cube for hours if the thing gets stuck
Breathing recycled air...

Elevators - where claustrophobia meets germophobia.

Went to Eeyore's Birthday yesterday, an event clearly defined for the burner subculture. Wore a shirt and skirt that, when worn separately would not have stood out, but worn together made an outfit adequately befitting the event. The face painting helped too. Bumped into a couple from a hiking group I used to belong to, who looked my costume up and down and smirked, " Well, aren't YOU all Eeyored out".

The each wore khaki shorts and a t-shirt. They were the only people within my eyesight in streetclothes. They stood out because they WEREN'T in costume.

I have the biggest pet peeve with people that refuse to walk an extra 25 feet to put a shopping cart into the cart drop off area. We could be at the end of the parking lot and we ALWAYS return the shopping carts either to the drop off area or back to the store. The walk really isn't that far.

Last night we went to grocery store and as we're about to pull into this spot, the asshole in the spot next to the spot we wanted just pushes his cart into that spot and gets in his car. It's obvious that we're waiting there for the spot as we have the front of my car in the spot wating for his stupid lazy wife to close her car door. The kicker was that there was a cart drop off two spaces away! My SO had to get out of the car and get the cart just so I could pull in.

If there's one thing that pisses me off about other people, it's the helpless-abused-victim thing that some of them drag around like toilet paper on their shoes. There's this whole subset of people who believe that because they had fucked-up stuff happen to them as kids/teenagers/adults, their entire life is ruined and now they're just targets for more abuse. Have you ever noticed that these victims tend to attract/create more drama and bad things, almost as if it's a self-fulfilling prophecy?

Instead of understanding that they create their own reality, and they have a choice in how they react to bad shit, they just piss and moan and whine and complain about how awful it is to be them, and heap excuse after excuse onto their shitpile of why they're _______ (poor, angry, damaged, unloved, discriminated against, abused).

For example, this woman: (long thread, but very entertaining in a "trainwreck" sort of way. There's also a matching thread in the Harbin Hot Springers tribe, for more fun)

Berkeley Bowl, Berkeley, California, today. Desperately rude people ramming into one another with shopping carts in the aisles, unthinkingly and agitatedly bumping people in wheelchairs (more than once?!) The parking lot had an altercation--someone upset that they can't get their organic raddicio home in time for the making of NYE vegan party dip? Yeah, the outside full of desperate SUV holiday grocery zealots, the inside? The same. In any case, I came away with such a bad taste in my mouth for people who are so desperately isolated from each other that they go shopping to feel connected by ramming each other with shopping carts.

Well, looks like everyone is following orders by shopping to save the regime here in a America:

It must be getting cold, cause the old folks are starting to show up in droves here in the desert. I really think they are putting the border fence up at the wrong end of the state. At least that’s what I was thinking as I followed a behemoth RV down the road at 2.4 mph. I understand wanting to be warm (especially as I enter old age) but come on down and stay in one of our nice resorts and if you want to go some place take a freaking cab. Leave the greyhound/rv at home or parked by the freeway or hire someone with the reaction time of a living human to drive it.
I wonder if they realize that the amout of fuel it took to get hear from there they could have stayed home with the Grandkids and kept the house at 97 degrees all winter.

Sandrama Lamy, 33, of Danbury, was charged with sexual assault and breach of peace. She was released on a promise to appear in court on Jan. 3.

Police quickly found and identified Lamy because the woman was described as being on crutches, said Capt. Bob Myles.

A call seeking comment from Lamy was answered by a recording Tuesday morning. A woman later called back and said: "It's a false report and I don't have any idea."

Police did not give the name of the disconcerted Santa, but they said he is 65 and felt badly because children were waiting to see him. "He was apparently shocked and embarrassed by the whole incident," Myles said.

A man who teaches hundreds of prospective Santas a year — "Santa Tim" Connaghan, president of RealSantas.com — said he's never heard of a similar incident, though it's not unusual for adults to want to pose with Santa.

There's posing with Santa and there's posing with Santa, obviously.

Sandrama Lamy, a 33-year-old woman from Danbury of Connecticut, was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault on a man playing Santa Claus at the Danbury Fair Mall. On Saturday December 15, Sandrama Lamy went shopping at the mall and possibly was attracted by the Santa's performance. But don't know how, the woman managed to sit on the man's lap and consequently might have touch the man inappropriately.

Well, you can see why this might happen: I guess that's why they usually only let the kids sit in Santa's lap, eh?

A nice touch here:

Sandrama Lamy, 33, is said to have inappropriately touched a shopping centre Father

Christmas after sitting on his lap in Danbury, Connecticut over the weekend. The Santa, who asked not to be named, said: “I don’t know what the deal was. It was just bizarre.”

The alleged incident happened at the Danbury Fair mall on Saturday. Lama faces fourth-degree sexual assault and breach of peace charges, police said.

“The security officer at the mall said Santa Claus has been sexually assaulted,” Danbury Detective Lt. Thomas Michael said.

Lamy was released and is due to appear in court on January 3. She was unavailable for comment today (tue).

“Santa Tim” Connaghan, president of RealSantas.com, teaches hundreds of prospective Santas a year. He said it’s not unusual for adults to want to pose with Santa.

He told a US newspaper: “I’ve had some very nice ladies sit on my lap. “Once in a while they’ll say ‘I hope Mrs. Claus isn’t going to be upset.’

“You have to be discreet and kind and say ‘Oh no, she’ll be OK. You can sit here, but only for one photo.’”

So this Santa does have an eye for the ladies then: just not for our Sandrama Lamy then

There's a shredder in my office and it jams if you put too much paper in. I started on Monday and noticed this immediately, to my annoyance, so I put a note on it as follows:

When you feed me, please keep it to 4 or less sheets or I jam up.

Thanks,
The Person After You

So someone, who obviously has sugar instead of blood running through their veins thought I was onto something and changed my message to this:

I'm a hungry little shredder but when you feed me make sure I have a balanced diet of only 4 sheets of paper at a time or I get terrible indigestion and get bloated and unwell. And you wouldn't want to make me a sick little shredder would you? Oh no!
Also, please change my nappy when it's full!

Thanks,

The (now) happy hungry little shredder.

Isn't that so annoying? Especially seeing as everyone will probably think that *I* did it as I was the one to put the initial note on it. I'll have to specifically mention it to people so I can tell them it wasn't me!

I don't get out much, Which turns out to be a good thing. I took a trip up to the northwest this past week to visit old friends. I was shocked at the outfits people travel in. I understand the need for comfort, but come on. Your comfort should not cause nausea in others.....if you have more than 2 chins rethink the spandex. Comfortable clothes do not have to be stained, when the underarm stains turn brown its time to buy a new shirt. It seems the airlines are the new buslines.

Christian Clown Busted For Kiddie Porn

What a clown......................

The 57-year-old former law enforcement officer and juvenile councilor, was originally detained on June 11 at San Francisco International Airport while returning from the Philippines, where he says he performed at an orphanage called House of Joy. A routine inspection of his digital camera and phone uncovered a variety of images of naked pre-teen boys, according to his arrest report. When questioned about the images, Carlock reportedly told officers, "That's how they live."

Lifestyles aside, three of the boys featured in the photographs later gave sworn statements that Carlock came into their rooms at night and fondled their genitals. They further asserted that he sneaked out when they woke up. Those statements lead to a search warrant, which was executed on Sept. 28 and which uncovered at least "21 movies on six compact discs that contain child pornography," according to the affidavit.

For the past 10 years Carlock and his wife, who goes by the stage name Smilee, have been "clowning" for youngsters at orphanages across the world. According to their website, they "are available for vacation Bible schools, children's crusades, Sunday school, children's church, church parties... and more [which] can be used to present the gospel of Jesus Christ to your children." It also states that Klutzo is "an ordained minister (formerly with the Church of the Nazarene, currently with the Missionary Church International)."

It never ceases to amaze me how people walk around totally unaware of their surroundings. I was sitting at a stop sign and watched a man walking and talking on his cell phone approach the crosswalk. Being the courteous and thoughtful person that I am, I waited for him to cross. Being very involved in conversation he failed to notice the curb…….
The landing looked very painful.
He went down like a ton of bricks.
Then he got mad cause I was laughing.

I take a late lunch. So today I'm sitting in this restaurant around 2:00 p.m. It's a pretty large restaurant and I'm the only one in there. I had finished my food and I was sitting blissfully staring out of the window across the room when this hairy old guy comes and sits right in my line of sight! He had the whole restaurant and he just had to sit there, facing me, in my line of sight.

If you're going to pull a stunt like that you'd better be about 26 years old and 6'2", 185 lbs, with blonde hair and blue eyes. If you're going to sit in my line of sight you'd better at least be HOT.

Really, is that so much to ask?

Today....I stoped for a person waiting at the cross walk, She waited till both lanes of traffic came to a complete stop then proceeded to waddle at a snails pace stopping 3/4's of the way across to dig in her purse for her cell phone.......which she answered before proceeding. I timed the whole ordeal..... 4 minutes to cross a street. 240 seconds to cross 30 feet of road. I was just happy she didn't find a sandwich when she was looking for her phone.

To the right people, to the right!! Don't come prancing towards me with your sequined stripper purse on my right side of the sidewalk and think I'm going to budge for you!!!

Or am I just crazy in thinking people should walk on a sidewalk to the right the way traffic flows?

Jay & Caz, please replace "right" with "left". :-)

I recently had an illness that kept me out of work for a total of 7 work days. the first day i called in sick and went to the doctor, who asked me not to go in to work until she approved. upon recovery, she wrote me a note covering the remaining 6 days.

i returned to work, submitted the paperwork and the HR person told me "I just need to inform you that you may or may not be in violation of your job, per the terms set forth in the handbook" which he then read to me. it essentially said "frequent or extended absences may or may not put you in violation of your job". when I asked him whether I was or not, he said he didn't know. I asked him when he would know, he said he couldn't say. i asked him what "violation of my job" meant anyway, but he didn't know that either.

he had just called me into his office to read me the page in the handbook, give me a copy of that page from the handbook, and to let me know that I may or may not be in violation of my job.

Hell is ... the French?

Here's an interesting and true story from this very evening. My friend is an English doctor living in Spain, she goes 10-pin bowling with a group of friends every Thursday evening, this particularly bowling alley is near a tourist area and as such a lot of people from different countries visit. Tonight my friend, Sarah, was bowling with about 16 people on lanes 19 & 20, soon after they started bowling a group of around 20 French people aged between 45-65 started bowling on lanes 17 & 18. A few nods were exchanged but not a lot said until an elderly French gentleman tripped over and started to look a bit pale. His French companions went to see if he was alright and sat him down, he didn't look very well so they started calling for an ambulance. The manageress of the bowling alley came down and said she would get the local police as they are based very nearby.

The French stopped bowling and the English group realised something was up, my friend went to see if she could help and quickly diagnosed that the gentleman had had, or was having, a heart attack. She calmed him down and spoke in French to ask his companions to stand back and let him have some room. The police and paramedics arrived and, obviously, only spoke Spanish so she started translating and eventually got the gentleman into a wheelchair and into the manageress' office off the alley to give him medical treatment.

When she got back all of his French companions had decided to continue their game of bowling, they'd got a round of beers in and were carrying on like nothing had ever happened! Not even one of them asked her how he was and not one of them tried to accompany him to the office to keep him company.

The English bowlers were very shocked by what had happened and by the subsequent French behaviour. What does everyone here think of this? If you were bowling with a group of friends and one had a heart attack, would you carry on bowling two minutes later? Very strange!

Road Rage
Date: 2007-07-04, 7:24PM PDT

So, driving home from work today I have some fuckwad tailing me, just banging on the horn. I look in my rear view and it is some dork in a BMW or Mercedes or some other overpriced piece of shit. I can see dude's veins bulging in his forehead and literally I can see the specks of saliva splashing off the windshield and he is LEAAAANNNNNING over the steering wheel yelling at me as if this was going to help me hear him better.

By the looks of him, he is a pretty big dude. So, unluckily for me, I have to stop at a light. At this point, my girlfriend is kind of freaking out. I am probably, 5-7 or 5-8 with my hair standing up and don't weigh much more than a buck fifty, maybe 60 after a big meal. Never been much of a fighter, didn't really have to. I have to say, it kind of freaked me out. So, of course Mr Testosterone has to get out of his car and confront me. Like I said, he looked big, and when he got beside me, unfortunately again for me, he was probably 6-2 and maybe 200-220. Dressed in a pretty sharp suit with no jacket and his tie loosened. Probably had a pretty bad day as he proceeded to call me everything but an english speaking white man. On and on, if I was to get out of the car he'd beat my ass blah blah blah. Finally he called me a little cocksucker and then he told my GF that I was a bitch. LOL. The old bitch card.

So, I continued to look straight ahead, I rolled my window down, maybe a 1/3, not quite half and asked him if he was having a bad day. Without warning, Road Rage Guy punches at me. Fucking longest light in the history of Vancouver right here...sadly for him, his big fucking mitt hit most of my window--shaking his hand he yelled for me to get out of the car--LOL, here is where it gets funny.

I am still looking straight over my steering wheel. He takes one step closer to the car to open it as the light changes. Again, sadly for this fucking meathead, I had already locked the door, still looking ahead, I lunge through my partially opened window, grab him by his tie and pull him towards my car, frantically I rolled up my window and hit the gas, dragging this fuckwad through the intersection--have you ever seen a cursing, swearing salesman do a sidestep at 15 KM/H? I am still kind of laughing, and of course my GF thinks it is hilarious--I am still a little pissed off that I didn't hit 30 and drag this fucking monkey through the streets of Vancouver.

So, if you were the dork that assaulted me, too bad you are a such dick head, but I sincerely hope that you have another tie and pair of dress shoes, those shoes have to be scuffed the fuck up. I do admire your agility at running beside my car doing cross overs. Your football training probably saved your life.

You eventually end up following some individual to their vehicle in hopes of getting one only to have them sit in the car with the door open for 8 minutes while they read a reciept. If it's this bad now I can't wait for christmans.

Some of you may have noticed, I've taken over as mod. Don't worry; Caz is still alive and well and will remain a part of the tribe. I plan on being non-instrusive. My only rule is: Don't be an ass.

If you insist on being an ass, I'll boot you. However, I do believe in democracy so I'll put it to a vote if I think I need to boot anyone. If more people think you're an ass than not, then out you go. Vice versa, you get to stay until you become such an ass that the tide turns the other way.

If anyone is having any problems and thinks we need a "your an ass" vote, just let me know.

By the way, if I see any racial, ethnic, gender insults directed to another member of this tribe, your post will be deleted and so will you.

... the harassment we have seen on this board of late?

This is my request for all harassment to stop, I will not listen to any "she/he started it" arguments and I will not have any further harassment. I will be sad to remove anyone from this Tribe for harassment but I do believe in sacrificing the few to save the many.

I thank you all in advance.

Mispronunciation

Not just accents, regional differences, or names of countries we didn't know existed until last week--- I'm talking the serious mangling of perfectly good words for no reason other than stupidity or laziness.

nu-ku-lar.
Regardless of how you feel about Bush's politics, how do you fight the feeling that someone should just walk up , mid-speech, remove the microphone, and say "I'm sorry, but you are simply too stupid to hold this job"?. How can you hear something pronounced correctly ten thousand times and still get it wrong?

kwess-yun or kwess-un.
Gee, it was kwest-yun or kwest-chun (question) until about three years or so, when I began to hear the new, mangled version. What happened to the "t" all of a sudden? There's an L.A "radio personality" who bangs this one up about 40 times per hour, four hours a night, five nights a week.

reel-uh-ter or reel-uh-tor.
Hmm, where d'ya see that extra syllable in "realtor"?

ath-uh-leet.
Ditto. What, two syllables weren't good enough for ya? It's "athlete".

orien-tate.
"It's Joe's first day here--- we're gonna take him down to the conference room and orientate him. He'll get his badge after we get him orientated". Yeah, and when you're done, you can "orient" him as well. I don't know what that other one means.

con-ver-sate.
"Me & him was jus, you know, conversatin', and then the PO-lice come and picked us up, for nuthin".
That's ok, LaKeesha, you don't have to worry about using the correct words--- it's 2007--- the rest of us will just adapt and build that into our Diversity Program. You just keep right on speaking in whatever way you feel most comfortable.

x-presso.
Being really into coffee makes you look hip & smart. Except when you aren't.

* slap-slap-slap-slap-slide-drag *

Sorry, I can't move very fast because I'm wearing my "flip-flops".
I'm not on the beach, I'm not in the locker room. I'm in Home Depot. Or a restaurant. Or on the street.....2500 miles from the nearest beach.
I'm too lazy to wash my feet, and squeeze them into socks and real shoes.
This is one way I show the world "I don't have any real work to do". I just shuffle around at snail speed, doing nothing.
I'm a grown man, it's 11:00 a.m on a Tuesday, and I'm walking around in public in yellow rubber beach shoes designed for teenage girls. That's how "casual" and "laid back" I am.
Hey, sometimes I wear them with sweatpants that don't even have pockets, so I have to carry my car keys in my hand the whole time--- am I kewl or what?

ennggg-engggg-enggg-eng-engg
That's not my shoes, that's the engine on my purple, lime, fuschia, lemon and black Ninja Rocket Super Citrus XZL750 Plastic Japanese Transformer Motorcycle ----- that I ride wearing shorts, a tank shirt, and FLIP-FLOPS! Yay! Pretty kewl, huh? Yeah, my dad bought it for me after I totalled my tricked out Civic. The first one, I mean. Man, I love this thing! Leather, long pants, jeans, boots? Nah, I don't need all that shit. I've been riding a motorcycle for three weeks, man, and not one accident yet! Woo-hoo, watch me zip in and out of city traffic doing 75! I like dressing like this when I ride--- it makes me look like I'm really casual and laid back. [I'm pretty sure the chicks will still think I'm hot when my arms, legs, and feet are full of skin grafts. Woo-hooo, let's ride!!]

*CLUNK-CLUNK-CLUNK-CLUNK*
I'm 9 years old and I decided to wear Big Girl Shoes today (adult women's dress shoes that don't fit) because I think that's cool and my mom is too caught up in her own world to notice that it's really dumb, and annoying to other people, and unsafe for me. I'm teetering around and turning my ankle and clunking by you over & over, in the department store or grocery store, because, well, my mom's just stupid. If she were smarter, she'd tell me to play dress-up at home rather than in public.

*s-l-i-i-i-d-e- shuffle-s-l-i-i-i-i-d-e-shuffle*
Ahm too lazy ta put muh shoes all the way on my feets so I jus put the front part o'muh foot in and step on the back. Now da backa muh shoe done got all run-down and stepped-on. That means I can't pick up muh feets so I got to s-l-i-d-e 'em like dis. It don matter no way, cuz I move so slow mos' time. Got nowhere ta go. Jus to da mailbox, pick up da check. I aint gittin' out yo way----- you got to go 'round me. Ima stan right here in the hamburger aisle and take 'bout twelve mo minutes to shuffle down to the chicken wings on muh broke-down shoes. My son, right behine me, see? He wear hisn da same way. All muh shoes look like dis. Whatchoo lookin' at?

Go ahead...it's only the library...

Here's an example that occurred yesterday at the library.

I was trying to study. Some kids were being loud and boisterous. I admonished them angrily. They then went into sullen, provocative mode. I objected to their behavior to the librarian...who then pointed out to me that I was in the "teen" section of the library...which I had not noticed, not being aware that such a thing even existed at this very small branch library. Therefore, while I might have been in my rights as a library patron to object to their nonesense, I might not have been correct in asserting that right in their section. I mean, I think I was but, obviously, I was in an area of the library that was designated for teenagers and it would seem that the librarians at the time feel that that means that standards that an adult familiar with libraries and the purposes of said libraries, unfamiliar with the new fangled "teenaged section" concept in librarying, was on unfamiliar social ground. So, who was right and who was wrong in this situation with regard to speech? No one really. I mean, next time I visit a library I'll be warily looking out to avoid the "teenage section" if at all possible and, presumably, when these teens grow up they won't be hanging out at the terminals in their section capping on one another and whinging about random trivia of teenage existence, etc, right?

What really irked me was that had the library branch actually deployed all their desks instead of having them turned the wrong way against one of the walls in the stacks, that I might have actually been at a station far away from the "teen section" Internet terminals. I mean, c'mon...these kids were playing MP3s from these terminals...and by the sounds of the lyrics the education they were garnering from their experience at the library was not for polite company. However, I didn't object to that to the librarian. Maybe next time.

Of course, the librarian, trying to accomodate me suggested that I sit right outside the "teen section"...which was right next to the "teen section". Um, thanx a lot. I'm complaining to you that these kids are being obnoxious and you are basically suggesting that the best solution is that I sit right outside the teen section and be provoked more and more by their antics? Good call there, Sparky.

Naturally, I went to the otherside of the library and sat in the kids section...where there were no kids and it was quiet. Well, maybe one big kid...but let's not get technical this time, okay.

The "innocent" voice

is definitely hell.

You know the one. It's the voice that people use when they are asking something that's none of their business or making an "innocent" comment about someone to see if you will be agreeable to trashing that person. The voice is about 1 octave higher than the normal voice and is usually accompanied by a wide-eyed expression.

Examples:
"Who was your meeting with this morning?"
"So and So must not feel well today; she's not a friendly as usual"
"Did I see your car in the parking lot?" (When you usually take PT)
"Do you wear thong underwear?"

National "Do Not Play" List

There are certain songs that everybody in the world has heard enough times and that should never be played again, whether on the radio, at social gatherings, in karaoke bars or as covers.

Here are some songs I propose for the list:

1. Stairway to Heaven (makes me tired just typing it.)
2. Dream On.
3. Welcome to the Jungle
4. Most everything by Lynyrd Skynnyrd
5. Most everything by Bob Seger
6. Ummm, I'm too tired to list any more of them. I will get back to you with more additions as I come up with them. I guess I am not in a bad enough mood now.

This Tribe doesn't have a moderator, but as a matter of policy, Tribe.net likes all groups to have a leader. Can you collectively choose someone to moderate your Tribe?

When you've reached consensus, have the new moderator send a note to help@tribe.net, with the words "Moderator Change –Hell is other people" in the subject header, letting us know that you've selected a new leader. Please be sure to include a link to this discussion thread!

I work with people who "read receipt" their email. "Read receipt" means that they get a confirmation of when you read the email. How sneaky is that? I had one psycho go off on me because I didn't reply back in a "timely fashion".

I share an office with a guy who listens to Counting Crows and Blues Traveler and eats at his desk. Chomp chomp chomp. Burp! Blues Traveler, shoot me now.

Then there are the dingdongs who keep burning microwave popcorn. They burn it to a crisp (usually by walking away and forgetting about it). And the smell of burnt popcorn spreads through the office. At least it's not as offensive as microwaved fish dishes.

Whose with me on the folks hiding behind cutsy pictures of animal friends and then losing their cool...anonymously? I mean, if it weren't for the fact that there was 99.99% that the alt was actually run by a human being and not actually by a cat I'm not sure whether they'd even qualify to actually participate in this tribe, right? What I mean is, in order for the tribe to be about >other< people, you have to actually be a person in the first place, right? Make sense?

Anyways, one can troll or frolic or what-have-you and get away with a lot on the Internet. Some folks do it more anonymously than others. But, like an involuntary blindfolded one-night stand, it can end up being...hell. Not that it can't be unpleasant with the blindfold off or anything, just that it would be less likely. But, let's make this an open ended discussion...

Of the moment, what's your pet peeve about other people?

A LIST OF PEOPLE I CAN REALLY DO WITHOUT! / Pet Peeves

As I sat here today at work (boss was not here), I began a *short list* of people that just really irk me -- more so than just ordinary people, I guess. I feel like printing this out and taping it to the inside of my storm door glass... (keep in mind, the "?"s actually come out as bullet points on MS Word). Everyone is entitled to his/her views (including political/religious, etc.); likewise, I am entitled to mine. Please remember this before you send me a nasty email.
================
If you are any one of these on this list:

•	do NOT even knock on my door.
•	do NOT call me;
•	do NOT send correspondence;
•	do NOT send smoke signals;
•	do NOT ask my support;
•	do NOT ask my cooperation.

– in short, do NOT waste my time!

Yep, this guy needed to get married so badly that he flew from here to Europe with infectious TB, got married there, fled Italy when the police tried to question him, took Czech Airlines to Canada and then brought his TB back into the US so he could get treatment here for it. Of course, his new father-in-law works for the US Center for Disease Control...

Maybe someone would have stopped him if he had infectious typhoid...

Enjoy!

"I'm so fat I have to have a 'special scooter' "

Fat scooters and the people who ride them. A few days ago I was in a discount store, and although there were probably no more than twelve or so people shopping in that area, THREE of them were "significantly obese", and on those damn motorized "scooters". Now, maybe they had actual physical disabilities and coincidentally happened to be fat, but I do know a ton of people (LOL, that just slipped out) who collect "disability" checks and other "disability benefits", for being fat. Nothing else wrong. Just plain fucking fat. I used to live in a city where it was very kewl for the dykes to claim a "disability"--- you know, "i'm allergic to perfume", "I can't eat wheat", "my joints ache--- and no, it's not because I weigh 320". They were thrilled when scooters hit. I think about thirty of them ran, er, I mean, had someone else run, out to buy one. It just seems like the more available and affordable these scooter-things get, the more people there are who "have" to have them.

hungry sniffers

so i'm sitting in the lunch room, trying to shovel some food down my gullet in the 30 minutes i'm given. and sometimes it's pizza from the store down the street. or sometimes a sandwich from the deli a little further on. or maybe some leftovers from last night - whatever. i generally don't get too fancy for lunch.

but no matter what it is, there's always some co-worker who comes into the break room and starts sniffing around, noisily. making disgusting sniffing sounds with their nose like they've got a cold and the snot's just running out of control. but of course they're making a big show about smelling the food that i'm eating. and they always want to know, "mmm - what's that you're eating? smells good!" and proceed to look over my shoulder, inspecting the food, getting their big sniffly noses closer and closer.

maybe they mean well - i don't know. maybe they're just hungry. but this sniffing and going on about the food i'm eating makes me all of a sudden very territorial about my food, like i have to defend it from this hungry invader. i instinctually want to curl my arms around the food and bare my teeth, to guard it.

ok, so i understand that these people have every right to smell my food. in fact, i'm sure they have little choice in the matter. if they just said they're hungry and want some food, i could at least tell them no. but why do they have to deliberately sniff loudly and in my direction - driving the point home that they're smelling my food? get your nose off my lunch, bitches!

Wouldn't you rather have someone that dislikes you, is offended by you or is intimidated by you just say so, rather than being fake and a gigantenormous pussy about the entire issue?

I don't understand the ultrabrite, dynamite white - oh so fabulous - mwah - kissy kissy, tra la la mindset.

How would one speed up the demise of insincere people? They are really taking up too much space on the planet and must be destroyed as they are breathing my air -- AND YOURS! -- last I checked.

Hell is the crap other people forward you in the form of sexist humor ("I am out of estrogen and I have a gun"), kids-say-the-darndest-things crapola, inspirational messages, warnings about internet viruses that will steal your soul, chain letters---I would love to read the most fucked up forwards you have received.

Just today, I got this from a co-worker:

Dear Dog and Cat,

When I say to "move", it means go someplace else, not switch positions

with each other so there are still two of you in the way.

The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The

other dishes are mine and contain my food. (Please note, placing a paw

print in the middle of my plate & food does not stake a claim for it

becoming your food & dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing
in the slightest.)

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack.
Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help
because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king size bed. I am very sorry
about this. Do not think I will continue to sleep on the couch to
ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs and cats sleeping. They
can actually curl up in a ball! . It is not necessary to sleep
perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent
possible. (I also know that sticking tails straight out and having
tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing
but sarcasm.)

My compact discs are not miniature Frisbees.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by

some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not

necessary to claw, whine meow, try to turn the knob, or get your paw

under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the

same door I entered. (In addition, I have been using the bathroom for

years...canine or feline attendance is not mandatory.)

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dogs or cats'
butt. I cannot stress this enough. It would be such a simple change
for you.

To pacify you I have posted the following message on our front door.....

Rules for Non-pet owners who visit and like to complain about our pets:

1. They live here; you don't.

2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.

3. I like my pet better than I like most people.

4. To you it's an animal. To me he and/or she is an adopted son and/or
daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and is speech
challenged.

Dogs and cats are better than kids.

They eat less, don't ask for money all the time, are easier to train,
usually come when called, never drive your car, don't hang out with
drug using friends, don't drink or smoke, don't worry about buying the
latest fashions, don't wear your clothes, don't need a gazillion
dollars for college, and if they get pregnant, you can sell the
results.

The Easily Offended

God damn it! How can people expect you to hang around them when they get all bent out of shape by every off-hand remark you make? Certainly, I can be a pretty abrasive person by my own recognition, but usually it's on purpose. If I say something like, "That seems a little misguided." It isn't meant to say, "You're a fucking moron, bitch!" So don't act like it is! I firmly believe that direct communication is a good thing, but some people just can't take it. I guess they just need to find some kind of drama in their life.
I've met dozens of cool people that are pretty easy-going and aren't going to try to crucify you with every word you utter, but there are hundreds that I've met that have some kind of puritanical devotion to requiring niceties in all communication.
I think I'm allowed to say, "Ann Geddes is probably the worst photographical artist of the 20th & 21st century." I think I'm allowed to say, "No! Bette Midler's 'Bette of Roses' albumn is not acceptible music in my living room." Is you're emotional connection to babies dressed up like bumble-bees or old ladies singing not nearly as well as they used to (when they made shitty music with Barry Manelow)SO strong that you have to throw a huge fucking fit about personal expression? And if you do throw that fit, why does it make you more angry when I ask what you were trying to express? A socio-economic issue? A sense of danger in child-raising?...no...probably attempting to express that babies are cute...and that they look really cute dressed up like bees... I'd just like to express that I think hot bisexual chicks are pretty cute too, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to hang pictures of them in the living room... Okay...now I'm straying a bit into specifics...but still... I think I'm going make it a point to be a total bastard during all future 1st dates, so I can tell right up front what I'm dealing with...
